Three Things Thursday

1. I planned to start breaking in my marathon shoes on Tuesday’s run (first run of taper), but it was raining all day and I thought for sure that would be bad luck. Plus, I didn’t want to get them all wet and icky just yet! Yesterday was the perfect evening to take them for a spin. I hope these shoes treat me very well on May 15th!

Behold, the marathon shoes!

2. Speaking of Tuesday’s run [in the rain], it was my last big workout and I was excited about that. I still have some light speed work on deck, but nothing close to this volume. The plan was a 21K (13mi) run with 3 sets of 5K at slightly faster than MRP. Hubs was running the same workout (maybe a tad faster) so we ran the warm-up together before separating to do our own thing. We were running on the park paths and saw one another a number of times. Later hubs told me that I was making it look too easy, like I’m just floating along on an easy run. (Funny, I would say the same thing about him!) The good news is, I am cruising pretty comfortably at this pace.

The goal was ~5:07/KM and I had a 1000m recovery between each set of five.

5:06 – 5:05 – 5:07 – 5:06 – 5:05
5:05 – 5:07 – 5:06 – 5:05 – 5:06
5:04 – 5:06 – 5:05 – 5:06 – 5:06

Average: 5:06/KM (8:12/mi)

Done and done!

  1. AAAHHHH!!! 10 sleeps!!Isn't it weird about new running shoes- even though you know that they will eventually get super muddy and icky, the first few weeks you want them to be shiny and new 🙂

  2. We are sympatico…I starting breaking my shoes in as well last night. I felt so …. springy. 10 more sleeps..holy…where did the time go?

  3. I am always holding off on wearing new shoes because I don't want them to get dirty – even though it just takes a couple of times and then they look well worn! Nice big workout. 🙂

  4. So impressed with how fast you have gotten! I know how hard you've worked for it and can't wait to hear about how it pays off for you at Mistersauga!

  5. Enjoy the next 10 days. Reflect on all the incredible work you've done. Think of the taper as a NECESSARY part of your training and your body will thank you.And who doesn't love new shoes?!?!?!

  7. You nailed that last workout! Well done speedy! I am so excited for you and this race! You have worked so hard and I know you are going to have a great race! Keep up the great taper and enjoy those new shoes!
