Eating Candy and Burning It Off

I worked up a good sweat Saturday morning with my longest trainer ride to-date, earning indulgences for later that evening.

I managed to avoid finding out the result of The Biggest Loser marathon episode all week so I could cue it up pn the PVR during my ride, and that made the 90+ minutes fly by pretty easily. I decided it would be appropriate to ride the marathon distance.

Saturday night was the epic gingerbread house decorating party with the girls. Here’s a peak at the debauchery:

weekend-009-300x208After a night filled with giggles and copious quantities of sugar consumption, I got to bed much too late to be up at 6:30am, but alas I still had a long run to do!

Thank goodness for a big group of friends meeting up for a beautiful run in farm country {followed by breakfast!} to make getting out of bed worthwhile.

Sunday afternoon was spent doing a little bit of shopping, watching Christmas movies and enjoying a catnap or two in between.

And suddenly it’s Monday again…

Do you make a conscious effort to burn more calories in order to off-set holiday indulgences?

  1. I wish I could say I have been making a conscious effort to burn off the extra calories but that would require working out 24/7 right now…;)

Today kicks off my 20 week training for my first race of next year. Time to bring the focus back!

As for the BL Marathon…. it had to be brutal in the 100% sun exposer and desert winds!

  2. And suddenly it’s Monday again…glad to say mine is now over. 🙂 That is an awesome week of training, well done! I’ll do some follow up posts for my 21 random things post and will include some fish photos somewhere. Have a great week!

    • The dust was horrible! Brutal.

I got sucked right into it. Even cried a few times. Good thing I could blame that on sweat! ha!!

I was happy for Ramon and surprised at Courtney!

  3. HA, you have me beat by 90 minutes on the trainer! Hell-to-the NO, I can’t burn that many calories, when I indulge I go crazy!

  4. We had a cookie exchange at work; I think I need to run about 300 miles today to compensate for the cookies I consumed :(. Good news is that I always wanted to run an ultra!! 🙂

    Nice week, lady!!

  5. I want to see a picture of the finished gingerbread house. Nice job on the trainer!

I don’t try to offset eating with working out. I can get a bit too obsessive in compensating. However, keeping in mind what I’m eating helps me to keep up with the workouts.

  6. Would you be surprised if I told you I went to bed at 8pm on Friday night? I was exhausted and could not keep my eyes open and was being a royal pain. Karen said why don’t you just go to bed and so I took her up on that offer and was done by 8p…..my step-son went to bed at 7:45p.

I do make the conscious effort to burn calories knowing that consumption is going to get out of hand.

Great effort this weekend and now its Monday…..what have you done today?

  7. Just want to comment that as a Finn it warms my heart to see a Polar heart rate monitor. I’m not sure if you know this, but Polar is a Finnish brand =o)

  8. Wow what a great week!

I so wish I had a bike on a trainer to ride during my shows. I wonder if I could get my hubbs to go along with a little row of three of them. I could see it now; LBM, S’ghetti and I all riding while watching TBL and Survivor (the oldest is usually working or with GF these days).

Love the decorating party. I’ve always wanted to do that.

  9. Wow, I’m so impressed with your December training. I can barely muster the energy to get off the couch…. and then only if there’s a cookie waiting for me in the kitchen 🙂

  10. Love all the holiday fun! And the fact that you still kicked ass on the workout front makes it even better!
When we first looked at our house the lady who lived here did gingerbread house making classes and was having one–huge fun–I think it made me want the house more! : )

  11. Awesome weekend! I finally saw TBL marathon on Saturday too, but sadly I was just sitting and stretching while I watched it instead of riding a bike like you! I have been eating cookies non stop since Friday night so I have definitely been trying to workout more to work off all the extra calories!

  12. Smart to workout before the party. I don’t exercise more or extra but I do try not to skip workouts this month. As long as I stick to that plan, I will be okay and if not I have to work hard in January to get the weight off again 🙂
