Road ID Giveaway

Until recently, I would often run alone without any form of identification (or a cell phone). I have since realized the error (and danger!) of my ways and invested in Road ID for myself and my husband.

Note: In this photo we are wearing the same pants – as in, sharing the same pair of pants! My left leg and his right. As you can imagine, we had a laugh trying to set the camera timer…

We both wear the Original Ankle ID. There are several varieties available, including Wrist ID, Fixx ID (dog tag), Shoe ID and the all new Wrist ID Elite (with rubberized band and watch-style buckle).

Road ID “Original” includes up to 7 lines of personalized text. I used my full name, city, phone number, 2 emergency contacts with numbers and an inspirational quote.

Road ID “Interactive” includes a fully updateable, secure Emergency Response Profile (ERP) that is available to first responders via telephone and internet. You can also personalize the first 2 lines of text.

Here’s what Road ID says:

– Road ID manufactures the premier line of identification gear for outdoor athletes so they can be identified in case of emergency or accident.

– Road ID is designed to give medically trained first responders the information they need to immediately contact family members, access medical information and prevent serious delays in case of injury. The company’s line of customized IDs is an integral part of any active person’s gear and can be worn on the wrist, shoe, ankle or around the neck

– A full line of innovative ID products is available for cyclists, runners, triathletes, skiers, kayakers and other outdoor enthusiasts.. Since 1999, the father-and-son-owned company has been providing safety gear to help make training and racing safer.

– Our dream is to see the day where wearing ID is as common among athletes as wearing a seatbelt is among motorists.

– Our mission is two-fold: One, to educate outdoor enthusiasts (runners, cyclists, triathletes, skiers, snow boarders, kayakers, walkers, and anyone that doesn’t spend all of their time on the couch) about the importance of wearing ID. Two, to provide these athletes with innovative identification products that they will want to include as part of their gear.

– With “Interactive” models, customers only pay one membership fee per Emergency Response Profile (ERP). So, if they have 5 Road IDs assigned to 1 ERP, they only pay 1 annual fee, not 5. In fact, they get a FREE year of membership with each ID purchase. So, if they purchased 5 Interactive Road IDs, they get 5 years of membership for FREE.

Top 10 reasons to run with ID:

1. If you can’t speak for yourself, Road ID will speak for you.
2. Road ID enables First Responders to immediately contact family members and friends.
3. Road ID enables family members to provide additional details about your health or give consent for potentially lifesaving procedures.
4. Road ID enables hospital staff to locate vital medical records.
5. Road ID can communicate medical conditions or allergy information to medical staff.
6. Road ID can prevent serious delays in treatment by saving crucial time during the “golden hour” of medical treatment.
7. It’s far better to have Road ID and not need it than to need Road ID and not have it. It’s not just a piece of gear, its peace of mind.
8. Accidents happen far more than you think they do. Each year approximately 450,000 of us are taken to hospitals unconscious and without identification.
9. Road ID looks good on and makes a statement about your athletic lifestyle – not to mention that studies would probably prove that people that wear Road ID are considerably smarter than those that don’t.
10. Road ID can save your Life. Period.

I have my annual check-up this morning at 10 so I took advantage of the extra time and headed out for a 7 mile run instead of hitting the gym. Strength/aerobics fitness class tonight after work and then back to my usual 6am gym time tomorrow.

  1. I like how my first comment is in response to a giveaway. I've been reading for awhile- I promise :)Regardless, I've been thinking about a RoadID for a few years now. The interactive ankle ID is probably what I'd get.

  2. I'm all over the original one. I have a shoe ID tag so I would give it to the hubs so he can use it both for running and biking…I don't think he has any id on him. Duh – like Sarah said…Men.

  3. the wrist one. orginal. for sure.i was leaning towards the shoe one but then remembered my high school friend got hit by a bar and his shoes flew off of him, so that would not have come in handy then.weird but true.

  4. This is a great product. I was actually sponsored by them as part of Team ActiveElite a few years back and got quite a number of them for myself and hubby. Thanks for spreading the word about safety!!

  5. I want the wrist ID elite. That was the one running thing i didn't get for Christmas. I usually run with a cell phone and keys but I used to not run with anything…

  6. I really like the look of the Wrist ID Elite…and it would look great with my Garmin. ;)TOTALLY hilarious that you and your hubby were sharing pants for the photo! Definitely made me giggle.

  7. i like the look of the wrist id elite, but the ankle one would probably be more functional for me! i also like the fluorescent firefly products they have since i often run in the evening : )

  8. Eeeks, I would need ANY of the road ID products since I have none and constantly run in traffic and/or alone on secluded trails. I shouldn't tell you that…..

  9. I think I would chose the wrist one with firefly so I can been seen at night. Of course, I would wear any of them if it was free. Great giveaway!

  10. I want the shoe ID and I would want it to say. PEEL ME OFF THE ROAD THANKS. PLEASE SERVE CHEESE AT MY FUNERAL. XOXO DANICA 🙂 HAHAHA okay maybe not so funny. 🙂 Great giveaway! you've been having some super fun ones lately! YAY!

  11. I really should get one of these, because I'm training for my first Half Marathon, and my outside runs are always alone. My husband knows where I am (as long as he was listening when I told him, lol), but it'd be a good idea anyway. I'd love to get the Wrist ID Sport.

  12. Ever since I was considered a "jane doe" during a stint in the hospital because of marathoning a few years back I've been meaning to get one. Procrastination at its finest folks 🙂 I think the rubber wrist id in green or pink is the one for me!

  13. I like the Elite Wrist ID the best, in pink, of course. Please enter me in the giveaway (lawgirl329@gmail.com) although admittedly, if I don't win I'll probably have to buy one for myself.

  14. I need to see the full lenth picture of your guys wearing the same pants!I'd love a wrist ID. I have shoe tag one, but it has my maiden name on it and my hubby's old cell phone number (it's really, really old!).

  15. I have the original fabric RoadID but I'd like to get the new rubberized one — I find that the fabric one itches me just a bit at the velcro seam, and the velcro itself tends to catch on my clothing (usually at the breast, thankyouverymuch). Or I'd get a shoe one that I could stick my car key in as well. But I love having one at all, itchy or not, because I only carry ID with me when I'm wearing a fuel belt. The rest of the time, without it, no one would identify my dead body for days!

  16. Haha! I love that you're sharing a pair of pants!I'd love the Wrist ID Elite. It would definitely come in handy when my running outfit doesn't have any pockets. Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

  17. I'd like to see the wide shot of that "we're wearing the same pants" shot!I have a wrist ID which I love. I even bought both my parents ones for Christmas. If I won, I'd get my boyfriend a wrist one to wear (or maybe one for Mario, Ha!)

  18. I do need to get one of these you are right about how important they are! I would have to get pink haha because I am me. I'd probably get the ankle or wrist one 🙂

  19. I would definitely love the shoe ID. I already wear a Garmin on my wrist and sometimes run with an Ipod on my arm. I think the shoe ID would be the most convenient.

  20. Thanks for the caption under the photo- I was a bit confused and worried at the same time when I first saw it (legs)! I have the shoe one, but would like to try a wrist Elite one.

  21. Great giveaway!I admit, there are way too many times when I take off for a run or a bike without ID on me. I've been meaning to get myself a Road ID, but I just keep coming up with an excuse – right now that excuse is it's winter and I don't run outside much. Still not acceptable behavior.I think I'd go with the wrist ID. I already wear a Livestrong bracelet, so I'm sure another bracelet wouldn't bother me. Not sure if I'd go with the original or interactive version though.

  22. I've wanted a roadID for a while now (the ankle one) but for some reason still haven't jumped. I wear so much gadgetry when I run already, I should have this important piece, especially since I usually run alone!

  23. hey hey! a lot of the peeps in the group wear these and um, I usually just stick my "real" ID in my pocket or something…which Does get a little tricky in the summer months ;)I'd love the wrist one (think the ankle one might bug me…)!!! Great idea for a giveaway!

  24. I run with a cell phone, but no ID and usually by myself so having this seems like a good idea. I personally like the shoe ID as that way it's one less thing for me to have to remember when I head out! 🙂

  25. I have to admit that I just got a RoadID, so I'm being a bit greedy in entering this giveaway. But the version that I got is the dog tag and after running with it a few times it really isn't working for me. So if I won I'd like to try the new Wrist ID Elite and see if that one is more comfortable.
